Cheadle and Marple Sixth Form College and
The Trafford College Group, Merger Consultation

A merger that will benefit our community, our learners, our employers, our stakeholders and our staff. Two colleges in Greater Manchester have today, commenced formal consultation on a proposed merger. Cheadle and Marple Sixth Form College and The Trafford College Group are planning to merge to provide a single, improved educational offer that will better serve the students and community  from the existing sites of the two colleges in Cheadle, Marple, Stockport, Stretford and Altrincham.

The integration of Cheadle and Marple Sixth Form College into the current The Trafford College Group structure would create a single legal entity with all the sites retaining local delivery and identity. The merged college will be financially viable and will develop the expertise, resources and track record of high-quality delivery to ensure that all students receive the best possible experience.

The heart of the merger strategy is ‘ONE COLLEGE, LOCAL DELIVERY’.  This encompasses all parts of the proposed new organisation, aimed at ensuring everybody plays their part in making then newly formed college Group the best college in the North West.

Alison Hewitt, Chair of the Board of Governors at Cheadle and Marple Sixth Form College said, ‘Our proximity to The Trafford College Group via Stockport College as well as the complementary provision seen across the two groups means that a merger would be extremely beneficial to students across the borough of Stockport as well as providing a more robust educational institution that will be able to serve the community for many years to come.’

The formal merger consultation period runs from 30 March 2020 until 8 May 2020. The proposed date for merger is 31 July 2020.
