Each course is a qualification in its own right and some people may only need to achieve one or two of the qualifications – others may need to achieve all three.
It simply depends on your work or personal requirements or ambitions. For example, if you work in a nursery (or wish to) you may only want to study Plant Growth, Propagation & Development; If you want to expand your gardening business to include garden design and set-up you would want to study Garden Planning, Establishment & Maintenance.
Many people running their own garden maintenance courses have studied the Practical Horticulture course to increase their skills and the services they can offer to clients.
The theory-based qualifications are science based academic studies so a good standard of numeracy and literacy is required; you will need to read and write extensively throughout the course. But please discuss with us if you are concerned about your English or maths skills whichever course you choose to do.
For all courses that lead to a qualification you need to ensure that you can attend a minimum of 90% of the lessons. Apart from study in the classroom you should also expect at least as much study again in your own time each week even more so as you approach exams in February and June for the theory courses.
These courses are not leisure courses, therefore commitment to attendance, study, revision and exams is essential.

The RHS is opening a new garden in Worsely in 2020 and there are likely to be many jobs available. The RHS usually specifies a Level 2 horticulture qualification for people who apply to work in their gardens. Any one of the RHS qualifications above would satisfy that criteria.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain that qualification for work of this type at the RHS or elsewhere. Many of our students have gained work after achieving qualifications with us, others have set up their own gardening businesses or expanded the services they can offer with their existing business. Others have chosen to do voluntary work with the RHS, other gardens and schools.
