ACCESS to Science
This is a practical course offering a broad base of skills to support employment in the health care sector. This course is designed to introduce some of the main areas of Biology, Human Physiology, Chemistry and Physics and how it’s studied.
All assessment is coursework based. Students produce a portfolio of work that is internally and externally assessed.
The qualification is equivalent to 3 A levels at

More than just a course
You will learn all about human anatomy and physiology and a range of modules specifically designed to give you a detailed in-sight into the application of chemistry and physics.
Key topics include Biological Molecules, Body Defences, Co-ordination and Control, Diet and Digestion, Exchange and Transport of Gases, Genetics, Homeostasis, Organisation of the Body, the Human Life Cycle and the Musculoskeletal System, Organic Chemistry, Periodicity, Structure and Bonding, Medical Uses of Radioisotopes, X-ray Spectra and Medical Uses of X-rays.
A portfolio of written assignments practical role plays/observations and internal/external assessments will provide you with a broad and diverse learning experience.

A minimum of GCSEs at grade C (4) or above in English and Maths.
A willingness to collect, organise and interpret information to produce a portfolio of work. The ability to work independently and to meet deadlines
We are an inclusive College and will consider all applications on a case by case basis with no previous experience
If you are aged 19 or over, you will be able to apply for a learning loan to help with the costs of this course, the loan is not means tested and you will not pay anything back until you earn over £26,575 per year. If you then complete a higher education course, you won’t have to repay the remaining loan.
Age 19 to 23 – Fee remission applies to someone in receipt of eligible benefits, or where someone is studying their first full Level 3 course.
