Sophie Williams

From College Student to The Fire & Rescue Service

Sophie Williams with Tutor Amanda Wilkinson

When Sophie was student at The Cheadle College, she enrolled on Level 2 Sport and Football Excellence and was part of the winning team in the Northwest Colleges Football League & Cup.

Sophie also enrolled onto the Princes Trust Programme for 12 weeks at Whitehill Fire Station in Reddish Stockport and then progressed onto a 1-year apprenticeship in Fire Safety, First Aid & Manual Handing at Trafford Fire Station Manchester.

Sophie became one the first students to be offered full time employment with a permanent contract with The Fire Service, a position that saw Sophie based back at Whitehill Fire Station as a Community Safety Advisor.

This week, as part of her role Sophie visited The Cheadle College to present to current students on the subject of ‘Driver Safety Awareness’. Followed by her Fire Fighting colleague’s demonstrating techniques used to remove a person from the wreckage of a crashed car. This demonstration gave a strong visual message to our young drivers and prospective young drivers.

Sophie will be leaving the service in three months’ time to emigrate to Australia, where she has secured a position with the Australian Fire & Rescue Service.
