Applied Human Biology

BTEC Level 2

This new course offers students the chance to further their studies of science that takes a different approach from the traditional A-level route. The extended certificate is the equivalent size to 1 A Level. The National Extended Certificate in Applied Human Biology includes a range of practical laboratory experience and academic study.

Applied Law

BTEC Level 3

The course will be offered as the equivalent of 1 A level. You will take a further 2 A levels alongside this course. The units you study will provide you with the knowledge, understanding and skills that you need to prepare for further education or employment.

Applied Psychology

BTEC Level 3

The course will be offered as the equivalent of 1 A level. You will take a further 2 A levels alongside this course. The units you study will provide you with the knowledge, understanding and skills that you need to prepare for further education or employment.

Applied Science

BTEC Level 2

This one-year course offers students the chance to build their understanding of Science to access level three qualifications. Students would complete GCSE Mathematics and English Language alongside this program if they obtain a 3 or below at GCSE.

The BTEC in Applied Science offers students the chance to continue their studies of all three sciences but in vocational scenarios, with less emphasis on examinations than the A-Level sciences. We offer the Extended Diploma, which is a full time, 3 A-Level equivalent qualification.

The BTEC level two in Art and Design is a one-year art course equivalent to 4 GCSEs. The course will provide you with opportunities to sample a wide range of specialist areas and produce a portfolio that will help you to progress onto our BTEC Level 3 Art & Design or employment. During the course, projects will cover drawing, painting, sculpture, craft, printmaking, photography and contextual studies.

BIOLOGY

A Level

Biology at Cheadle is in the top 25% nationally for progress. Biology is the science of life. In Biology you will study how organisms function and interact with each other. Biology is an exciting and fast moving science with new discoveries being made every week, particularly in genetics and in the fight against disease.

CHEMISTRY

A Level

A-level Chemistry is a rigorous, challenging and ultimately rewarding course that develops students' scientific skills and knowledge. Assessment is entirely exam-based, with three papers taken at the end of the second year. In the first year, students will explore the fundamental principles that form the basis of Chemistry and apply this to how Chemistry is used in the modern world.

Choices Provision (LLDD)

Each course is set up for one to two years, however depending upon the level of the learner at entry and their individual needs, there is a possibility to progress through the qualifications and remain at college for a maximum of 3 years. There is also some opportunity for some learners to attend on a part time basis if needed.

Computer Games Design

Level 3

Computer Game Design introducers the industry of computer games production though practical exercises. The key areas covered on this course are game design and production, game mechanics, object construction and animation.

Creative Media

Level 3

Creative media is a full time vocational course equivalent to 3 A levels. It looks at a wide variety of disciplines geared towards working in the media industry. During your time studying this course you will be introduced to the types of careers available to you upon leaving college. Pathways include higher education degrees, degree apprenticeships, practical in work apprenticeships, work placements and employment.

BTEC Level 2 Diploma

The media industry is in an age of rapid growth with global communication networks bringing the digital age to every home. This is a specialist two year course with an integrated creative and technical study of media production. Although the course is practical, developing skills such as team-building, communication and presentation, there are substantial written elements that have to be covered in each unit.

Criminology

Level 3 Certificate & Diploma

The Level 3 Applied Certificate and Diploma in Criminology is a qualification with elements of Psychology, Law and Sociology that complements studies in humanities but will be attractive and useful to a range of students.

Early Years Educator

(19+) Work-Related Learning: Level 3

The Early Years Educator Level 3 Diploma is an 18- month course equivalent to 2 A Levels. The course is 100% assessed by coursework and work-related observations, with assignments to meet criteria. The Diploma will lead to a highly specialised work-related qualification comprising the knowledge, understanding and skills required to work in an Early Years setting with children under 5 years old.

(16-18) Work Related Learning: Level 3

The Early Years Educator Level 3 Diploma is an 18- month course equivalent to 2 A Levels. The course is 100% assessed by coursework and work-related observations, with assignments to meet criteria. The Diploma will lead to a highly specialised work-related qualification comprising the knowledge, understanding and skills required to work in an Early Years setting with children under 5 years old.

Further Maths is like Maths except that there is more of it and it is even more challenging! Extra topics such as complex numbers and matrices are covered. You will also extend your knowledge of Statistics and Mechanics and be introduced to Decision Maths.

BTEC Level 2

This is a full-time qualification for one year, covering both theoretical and practical aspects of ICT focusing on creative skills and technologies.

Information Technology

Level 2

This qualification is for someone who is looking to work in IT within a systems, support or digital roles. Due to the nature of IT, the skills that the learner will develop through successful completion of these qualifications will enable them to seek employment across sectors as roles apply in business regardless of core business.

A Level

Law is the subject for you if you have a genuine interest in the Law or the English Legal System, if you enjoy an intellectual challenge or if you are interested in becoming a barrister or solicitor. Law essentially involves the study of the English Legal System and the system of Law Making in England and Wales along with a detailed look at key aspects of Criminal Law, the Law of Tort and Human Rights.

Mathematics is about solving problems. Pure Maths provides methods involving algebra, trigonometry, functions and calculus. Applied Maths is divided into Statistics and Mechanics. Statistics is about data analysis and probability whereas Mechanics is about forces and motion of objects.
