BTEC Level 3 Diploma

The BTEC in Sport is a two year course equivalent to 3 A Levels. The course is assessed through a range of coursework and externally examined units. The course will provide you with a range of opportunities to sample a wide range of specialist areas within sport and develop a range of academic and practical skills that will help you to progress into a career in the sports, health and fitness industry.

The course is suitable for students who wish to progress onto study in Higher Education or who wish to go into employment.

This course is the equivalent to 2 A levels

How will I be assessed?

By a mixture of coursework (54%), an exam and controlled assessment (46%). Controlled assessment involves completing an assignment in exam conditions with support material

More than just a course

Each unit is unique to an aspect of the sports sector drawing on different skills and knowledge to provide evidence of practical competence and academic understanding.

Some of the qualities you will gain are; understanding how the body systems respond to exercise, how to test and plan training, how to coach and instruct, how to evaluate performance and fundamental issues regarding safety in sport.

Students will develop the essential practical skills required to work in the sports industry.  They will carry out work experience to develop their work place attributes and participate in visits to various sports related facilities.

Additional qualifications and volunteer opportunities will also enable the student to develop their skills in vocational a setting.

To study Advanced Vocational qualifications you must have achieved at least 5 GCSEs grade 4-9 including English or Maths.
