Access to Higher Education Level 3

This is a practical course offering a broad base of skills to support employment in the health care sector. This course is designed to introduce some of the main areas of Human Physiology, Health & Welfare and how it’s studied.

All assessment is coursework based.  Students produce a portfolio of work that is internally and externally assessed.

The qualification is equivalent to 3 A levels at A* – C

More than just a course

You will learn all about human anatomy and physiology and a range of modules specifically designed to give you a detailed in-sight into health studies in modern Britain.

Key topics include Access to Health Care in Modern Britain, Ethical Issues in Health, Gender and Health Care Roles in Modern Britain, Health Promotion and Social Roles in the Caring Professions, Biological Molecules, Body Defences, Co-ordination and Control, Diet and Digestion, Exchange and Transport of Gases, Genetics, Homeostasis, Organisation of the Body, the Human Life Cycle and the Musculoskeletal System.

A portfolio of written assignments practical role plays/observations and internal/external assessments will provide a broad and diverse learning experience.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 2 GCSEs at grade C or above in English and Maths.

A willingness to collect, organise and interpret information to produce a portfolio of work. The ability to work independently and to meet deadlines

Money matters

If you are aged 24 or older, you will be able to apply for a loan to help with the costs of this course. You won’t pay anything back until you’re earning over £21,000 a year. If you then complete a higher education course, you won’t have to repay the remaining of the loan.

Age 19 to 23 – Fee remission applies to someone in receipt of eligible benefits, or where someone is studying their first full Level 3 course.
