Creative Media

BTEC Level 3

Creative media is a full time vocational course equivalent to 3 A levels. It looks at a wide variety of disciplines geared towards working in the media industry.

During your time studying this course you will be introduced to the types of careers available to you upon leaving college. Pathways include higher education degrees, degree apprenticeships, practical in work apprenticeships, work placements and employment.

Although the course is practical you will develop skills such as team-building, research techniques, communication and presentation skills. There are written elements that must be covered in each project that contribute to your achievement.

Creative media is built on a foundation of course work.
Each year there is a controlled assessment which will
make up 40% of your overall grade. Controlled assessment involves completing an assignment in exam conditions with support material and happen at the end of a topic.

Students will be offered a 1-week work placement during year 1 of their course. Students will also have the option to attend creative media course trips, including; Manchester art galleries, Salford’s Media City, an overnight trip to London and a behind the scenes look at Double Negative Visual effects studio (these can change due to availability).

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSE’s at level 4 or above, including English Language and / or Maths at 4 or above. If you have 3 in English & Maths we do offer a Level 2 one-year course covering a similar curriculum. Ask for details.
